Biography
I am Professor of Human Genetics, founding Director of the Utah Center for Genetic Discovery, and Chief Data Strategist for the University of Utah Hospitals program for Personalized Health. As such, I lead my institutions efforts to improve patient care using Whole Genome Sequences (WGS) and Electronic Health Records (EHRs). These efforts have been widely supported by the NIH and the American Heart Association, and have resulted in innovative techniques and software, including Artificial Intelligence (AI) applications. Now, in collaboration with Rady Childrens Institute for Genomic Medicine and Fabric Genomics, we have developed GEM1, the first AIbased tool with the complete suite of features required for rapid, scalable diagnosis of critically ill children in the NICU and PICU. GEM is now integral to genomesbased diagnosis programs at the University of Utah, at Rady Childrens Hospital, and at the Broad Institute.
