Biography
Laura Filkins is the Clinical Director of the Microbiology and Molecular Virology Laboratories at Childrens Health System of Texas. After receiving a doctoral degree at Dartmouth College, Dr. Filkins completed fellowship training in Medical and Public Health Microbiology through the University of Utah and ARUP Laboratories. Dr. Filkins is a certified clinical microbiologist by the American Board of Medical Microbiology. Dr. Filkins research interests focus on the integration of emerging technologies for pathogen detection into the clinical setting and how to guide optimal utilization of these new diagnostic tests. She is the PI or CoI on three active grants for the development and evaluation of new diagnostic methods and has authoredcoauthored over 60 journal articles, clinical practice guidelines, chapters, and published abstracts. She has served for clinical practice and technology innovation committees for the American Society for Microbiology, American Society for Clinical Pathology, and the American Association for Clinical Chemistry.
