Biography
Dr. Kristian Andersen is a renowned virologist and infectious disease expert who is a professor in the Department of Immunology and Microbiology at Scripps Research in La Jolla, California. He received his PhD in immunology from the University of Cambridge, and completed postdoctoral training at Harvard University and the Broad Institute. Dr. Andersen's research focuses on understanding the emergence, evolution, and spread of viral pathogens, with a particular emphasis on emerging infectious diseases. He has made significant contributions to our understanding of the Zika virus epidemic, the Ebola virus epidemics, and the COVID19 pandemic, among others. His work involves a combination of cutting edge genomic and computational techniques to track the spread of viral pathogens in realtime, and to inform public health efforts to contain and control these diseases.
