Biography
Dr. Romine is the Associate Director for Laboratory Programs (ADLP). As ADLP, he provides direction and operational guidance for all of NIST's scientific and technical laboratory programs, and serves as principal deputy to the Under Secretary of Commerce for Standards and Technology and NIST Director, among other duties.Prior to becoming ADLP in 2023, Romine was the director of the Information Technology Laboratory (ITL), one of six research Laboratories within the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) with an annual budget of $160 million, nearly 400 employees, and about 200 guest researchers from industry, universities, and foreign laboratories. As ITL director, Romine oversaw a research program that cultivates trust in information technology and metrology by developing and disseminating standards, measurements, and testing for interoperability, security, usability, and reliability of information systems.
