Anthony Duong

Biography
Anthony Duong has 13 years experience performing polymer and lipid nano/microparticle drug delivery research and has extensive experience building agile biomedical research teams with competitive intellectual property strategies. His doctoral dissertation work involved nanofabrication methods for producing biocompatible micromaterials and nanomaterials for in vivo detection and delivery of drugs. He has developed a patent and published peer reviewed data for polymeric nanoparticles with hybrid magnetic-fluorescent properties for use as in vivo imaging agents and ex vivo cell labeling and sorting. His graduate studies also produced multiple publications for use of nanoparticles for immunology and vaccine applications including the development of microparticle drug delivery vehicles for encapsulation and delivery of immune modulating drugs. Dr. Duong is currently a technical lead on Battelle’s Engineered Gene Delivery Initiative. Over his career, he has established himself as a leader, an innovator, and a driver of cross-functional and cross-disciplinary collaboration, with specific expertise at bridging collaboration efforts between biology, chemistry and engineering teams.

Unlocking Genetic Medicine via Accelerated Delivery Vehicle Design
Innovation in delivery vehicles has not kept pace with that of genetic medicine. Although most delivery vehicles used in clinical trials are viral vectors, next generation genetic therapies require flexible vehicles that can encapsulate a variety of large biomolecules, including a combination of nucleic acids and enzymes. Here, we present a platform that will accelerate the translation of genetic medicines through clinical trials with increased success rate.
