Biography
Dr. Yamamoto is a leader in science and public policy. He has made an indelible impact by simultaneously advocating for Precision Medicine across the .edu, .gov, .com and .org sectors. As Chair of the National Academies Board on Life Sciences, he appointed and served on the study committee that produced “Toward Precision Medicine: Building a Knowledge Network for Biomedical Research and a New Taxonomy of Disease”, the report that enunciated the precision medicine concept. He helped to stimulate President Obama’s interest, which led to the Precision Medicine Initiative, as well as Gov. Jerry Brown’s launch of the California Initiative to Advance Precision Medicine. He also promoted a precision medicine approach to Vice President Biden’s Cancer Moonshot, provoked broader participation by the corporate and nonprofit sectors, and directs UCSF Precision Medicine, an institution-wide imperative. In addition, Dr. Yamamoto has led or served on numerous federal or national committees focused on public and science policy, public understanding and support of biological research, research funding and peer review, and science education and the biomedical workforce; he chairs the Coalition for the Life Sciences, and sits on the National Academy of Medicine Council and Executive Committee, and the National Academy of Sciences Division of Earth and Life Studies Advisory Committee. He is a member of the Advisory Board for Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory and the Board of Directors and Executive Committee of Research!America. At UCSF, Dr. Yamamoto is vice chancellor for science policy and strategy and professor of cellular and molecular pharmacology. He is a leading researcher, investigating transcriptional regulation by nuclear receptors, which mediate the actions of essential hormones and cellular signals; he uses mechanistic and systems approaches to pursue these problems in pure molecules, cells and whole organisms. He is an elected member of the National Academy of Sciences, the National Academy of Medicine, the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and the American Academy of Microbiology, and a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science.

Biography
Sharmila Majumdar, Ph.D., obtained her Ph.D. degree from Yale University in Engineering and Applied Sciences. After a short stay at Yale she joined UCSF as an Assistant Professor in 1989. Her research on machine and deep learning has a focus on imaging; prior work has focused on imaging technology development and translational, development of image processing, computer vision has been focused in the areas of osteoporosis, osteoarthritis, and lower back pain. She is the Executive and Scientific Director of the Center for Intelligent Imaging at UCSF. She was selected as a fellow of the American Institute of Medical and Biological Engineers in 2004, a fellow of the International Society of Magnetic Resonance in Medicine (ISMRM) in 2008, and awarded the ISMRM Gold medal in 2016. She is an active participant in the PMWC meetings. Her work over the last three decades has been extensively supported by the NIH and industry.

Ph.D., CEO, Theiagen Genomics

Biography
Dr. Sevinsky has leveraged over two decades of experience in systems biology and taken aim at transforming public health and infectious disease surveillance through innovative implementation of NGS and bioinformatics technologies. During a three year tenure at the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment, he led several initiatives to build NGS testing and bioinformatics capacity at the state, regional and national levels. In 2019 Dr. Sevinsky’s ambitions to impact public health exceeded his role as a government scientist, resulting in the formation of Theiagen Genomics. Dr. Sevinsky and his team now work with over four dozen public health laboratories nationally, and more than a dozen internationally in Africa and Asia. Prior to his time in public health, Dr. Sevinsky held several positions in non-profit and industry, working in applied technologies for diverse applications such as biomarker identification and biofuel/biochemical production.

M.D., Chief Health Information Officer and VP, Genetic and Genomic Services, UCSF Health

Biography
Dr Cucina is Vice President, Genetic and Genomic Services, and Chief Health Information Officer, for the UCSF Health system. Working with the Chief Genomics Officer, he is responsible for the strategy and operations of UCSF’s clinical genetic and genomics laboratories and services, and for the analytics, software, and information infrastructure to further the missions of UCSF Health. Dr. Cucina is board certified in Clinical Informatics and Internal Medicine, and practices in Hospital Medicine at UCSF’s Parnassus Campus.

VP, Chief Data & Insights Officer, Anthem

Biography
Ashok Chennuru is a veteran Anthem employee with 20 years + experience.  He currently serves as the Chief Data and Analytics Officer. In this role he over oversees enterprise data management, AI & Digital Strategy, technical delivery of all capabilities in Provider Collaboration/Enablement & Analytics, Clinical and Member Management analytics, technical delivery of Commercial and Government Risk Adjustment initiatives, Medicare revenue Management including STARS, and Clinical quality Management(HEDIS), program integrity (Fraud, Waste and Abuse) for Commercial and Government markets, technical delivery of Employer Analytics, Health Information Technology strategy, and technical delivery and Architecture for Anthem around its Provider Data Strategy including the integration and operational uses to feed the data in the Common Data Foundation to the consuming platforms to support directories, claims payment provider portal and Consumer facing solutions. Prior to joining Anthem, Ashok led the Information Business Intelligence team in Liberty Mutual and focused on delivering analytics to key business areas like Actuarial & Finance.  Preceding Liberty Mutual, Ashok worked in software giants SAP and Oracle as a software development engineer focused on analytics products. Ashok holds a Master’s degree (MS) in Computer Science from University of Missouri and BS in Computer Science and Engineering from Madurai University in India.
