Speaker Profile

Ph.D., Assistant Professor, Molecular Biosciences, University of Texas-Austin
Biography

Dr. Ilya Finkelstein is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Molecular Biosciences at the University of Texas at Austin. His research interests include the biology and biotechnological applications of CRISPR systems, the mechanisms of human DNA repair, and the molecular underpinning of cellular aging. His research group tackles these questions via an interdisciplinary approach that blends micro-/nano-engineering, massively parallel next-generation DNA sequencing, and ultra-sensitive fluorescence imaging. Prior to his faculty position, Dr. Finkelstein was a postdoctoral fellow at Columbia University where he developed and applied new single-molecule tools for imaging protein-nucleic acid interactions. Dr. Finkelstein received his Ph.D. in Chemistry from Stanford University and his B.S. from the University of California at Berkeley.
