David (Dave) Persing, MD, Ph.D., is Chief Medical and Technology Officer at Cepheid, and was recently appointed Chief Scientific Officer (CSO) for the Danaher Diagnostics Platform. He has spent most of his 25 year career in biomarker discovery, translational medicine and innovation in the diagnostics space. To maintain a connection with the latest trends in translational medicine, Dave also serves as Consulting Professor of Pathology at Stanford University School of Medicine. He obtained his MD and PhD degrees from the University of California, San Francisco, CA in 1988. He has published over 300 peer-reviewed articles and reviews, including multiple articles in the New England Journal of Medicine, Science, and PNAS, and served as Editor in Chief for five highly regarded textbooks, the most recent of which was published in 2016.

TB or not TB: Precision Medicine in Unlikely Places
Over the past decade, the methods used for diagnosing tuberculosis are finally moving away from 100 year old techniques based on the light microscope. This presentation will describe the movement toward implementation of molecular methods for detecting TB, identifying specific drug resistance and pharmacogenetics markers and new ways of monitoring therapeutic success.
