The cost of health care has been rising year over year – affecting everyone — via company-sponsored health insurance public insurance such as Medicare and Medicaid or private insurance. Chronic illness is responsible for 85 percent of health care costs, but the industry is also burdened by the cost of new diagnostics. All of this impacts the future of health care. Genomics-based testing that assesses disease risk and new immunotherapies that revolutionize cancer care are changing how we approach disease identification, management, and prevention. Furthermore, the future of the health insurance industry will have to adapt to the technological and research-based advancements that are transforming the entire healthcare industry.

Confronting these challenges while striving to create higher value at lower cost is a daunting undertaking. As such, industry stakeholders are working to create a transparent system that exposes where problems exist and solutions may lay.

Seema Verma, Administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, and a key figure in the future of the Affordable Care Act, will join PMWC 2018 Silicon Valley to discuss this timely subject. CMS is the world’s largest health insurer, covering one third of the US population through Medicaid and Medicare alone, with a budget of over one trillion dollars and processing over 1.2 billion clients claims a year.

Joining us for a fireside chat on Day 2 of the conference – taking place on January 22-24, in Mountain View, CA, . Verma will discuss her view of the future of healthcare, at length.

Specifically:

  • What government programs pay for much of American health care
  • How new technology will be integrated and leveraged to drive better care
  • What types of plans can control costs and make healthcare more affordable while allowing patients more flexibility in making health insurance decisions
  • How CMS programs and Medicaid access will be improved
  • How to improve the overall system for doctors to reduce cost and time
  • How we can build flexibility into the Medicaid programs to meet the diverse needs of unique populations

These are just a few points that will take center stage during the discussion with CMS Administrator Verma. We’d like to invite all attendees to be proactive and send additional questions or comments to [email protected] by January 12, 2018.

“Administrator Seema Verma has a strong track record of implementing innovative reform ideas, both at the state level in Indiana and now as Administrator of the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services.  I am looking forward to hearing Administrator Verma’s ideas about the future direction of Medicare payment reform and on the availability and affordability of innovations in precision medicine in years to come.“

Professor of Medicine
Stanford University

We are very excited to have Verma participate in PMWC 2018 SV, joining a list of key opinion leaders and industry representatives from across the precision healthcare sector.

Late breaking: Dawn Barry leaves Illumina to lead Luna DNA -Blockchain Disrupting Healthcare Industry

“Every individual holds a valuable piece of the puzzle to understand disease and health, and researchers are all in need of more data. Discovery is hindered by putting the majority of data into small silos. Breaking down data silos and bringing individuals together will more quickly aggregate enough samples to rise above the complexity of genomics and identify disease candidates.” – Dawn Barry, President and Co-Founder, Luna DNA
